Golcar occurs as hill town in the Colne Valley in West Yorkshire, England, 4 kilometer west of Huddersfield, and upright n of the River Colne and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
Golcar occurs as comparatively little village (people 17,000 inside 2001) however has an extended history. It was known as when St Guthlac who preached in the area in the 8th century. It appears in the Domesday book as Goullakarres.
In the Industrial Revolution, Golcar became an important centre for weaving, and an old weaver's bungalow has been turned into a Colne Valley Museum. the exhibits include the handloom & a Spinning Jenny, invented by James Hargreaves.
